Hartlepool Primary Care Trust to invest in the Voluntary and Community Sector

Hartlepool Primary Care Trust (PCT) has agreed to provide financial support to fund a number of Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) groups whose future was uncertain due to the ending of Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF) on 31 March 2008.

The following groups are to access continuation funding to replace NRF monies: Hartlepool MIND, Alzheimer's Day Centre, Anchor Trust Community Development Team and Hartlepool Carers.  This decision was taken at the PCT’s Board meeting on 26 March 2008.  In addition the PCT is to provide additional support to a number of other groups for 2008/09, these include Families First, Hartlepool Special Needs Support Group, Epilepsy Outlook, PATCH, Make a Difference, Albert Centre, Hartlepool MIND, Hartlepool Carers (Young Carers).  Hartlepool Borough Council will also receive funding to support the commissioning of physical activity via the Community Activities Network and HVDA will receive funding to establish a Health Community Chest for VCS groups.  HVDA has worked in partnership with the PCT’s Directorate of Public Health to highlight the funding needs of the VCS, specifically in relation to those NRF Schemes which were to end in March 2008.  The PCT’s additional investment recognises the wider role of the VCS in delivering health outcomes.
