iKnow

 iKnow

Can you help a new project that gets experts to work with the rest of us more effectively?

The Project

iKnow is a university project that will make researchers more responsive to issues that are important to local people.

The idea is to make universities more open to learning from people's own life experiences.  This might be as homemakers, workers, patients or carers, all of whom can bring a fresh perspective and who will often ask the questions academics would not think to ask.

By bringing you, the 'everyday experts', together with academics, we can get the best of both worlds and really make a difference to the issues that affect all of us living in the North East and beyond.

Good practice in the North East on which iKnow intends to build includes:

  • Young people helping design internet resources to lobby the government for better youth provision
  • Older people conducting their own citizens' jury to improve hospital provision for victims of falls.
  • Former mining communities helping design research to reduce flooding problems arising from disused coalfields.
