NDC Community Chest
The NDC Community Chest funded a cookery course for children aged between 8 and 9 years old at Lynnfield School. The programme was organised by Barnardos Hartbeat Project who recognised the need to educate children in healthy eating alternatives. The children chose the food they wanted to cook and the tutor added a healthy twist to the food. For example, pizzas were made from scratch, using wholemeal flour and all fresh vegetables and low fat cheese.Leigh Kane, the project co-ordinator, said "The children benefited immensely and have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. They have gained knowledge in health and safety, hygiene, nutrition and cooking skills." She added "They became a really good team... and increased their confidence when others showed an interest in their group. I would like to thank the NDC Community Chest very much for their support for the project."
The NDC Community Chest is available to groups and individuals who reside in the NDC area. For further details of the funding available contact Liz Ashton or Alison Barnes on (01429) 262641 or visit HVDA's website www.hvda.org.uk and click on Grants & Funding.
